Do I have to download anything to chat?
No. All that we require is a modern web browser that supports javascript. The site has been tested with Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3, Google Chrome & Opera 9. It may work in other browsers, but we cannot guarantee the look and feel will be the exact same in each browser, though functionality should still be there.
The chat is not working for me!
Please make sure you have javascript enabled for your web browser. Also ensure you are using the latest verison of your web browser. You may also want to check security or ad blocking software/devices as these could be blocking our site.

What Rooms are available?"
There are over 100 rooms available to chat in. There's a room for most major sports teams. Here's a few of the teams we cover:
Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic, Portland Trail Blazers, Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays, Colorado Rockies, Boston Red Sox St. Louis Cardinals, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners.
On top of that we also have rooms for NCAA sports, Golfing, Racing, Soccer/Futbol!, Cricket, even Pelota...
One of our goals is to allow for a wide variety of sports chat. We're always interested in learning more about sports of different kinds, including those outside the United States. If you feel we're missing something or a sport needs it's own category, please e-mail us or let an administrator know.
How do I know if someone is an Admin or a Mod?
Currently we have a color coding scheme in place:
- Red = Admin - The master of the chat universe!
- Orange = Super Mod - can ban or kick.
- Green = Mod - can kick users.
- Blue = User - regular Joe or Josephine.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to talk to any Admin or Mod.
What are the chat rules?
- Respect others! Do not troll or pick fights with people. Do not harass or bully people. Do not purposely visit a chatroom involving a topic or team you know you don't like just to cause trouble.
- We do not directly censor offensive language, but there is a censor filter available if you would like to filter certain language out. Please do not abuse these freedoms of speech. If you feel the censor is missing a word, please send the word or words you'd like blocked to admin@sportsgamechat.com.
- Do not be overly crude or offensive. This includes things like sexism, racism or "locker room style" banter.
- Do not post pornographic links or content in the main chat. People may be at work, or might have their family around. Please keep the chat at a PG-13 level.
- Respect the moderation staff and administrators. Though they have to follow the same rules. If you feel someone's ego is too big or is abusing their power as a moderator please report it to admin@sportsgamechat.com. Copy and paste the chat transcript if you can.
Failure to comply with these rules may result in you being kicked or banned from the server. Let's all be mature and have fun!
What are some of the commands I can use in chat?
Most of the commands you'd need are handled by the user interface. However you may find the following few commands helpful:
- /ME [emote text] - Emotes text, e.g. "/ME lights his pants on fire" results in "**Klinky lights his pants on fire".
- /LINK [url] - has linkbot post a URL link for you. For security we do not convert URLs posted in main chat directly to links.

What technologies do you use?
NGINX, PHP, redis & Ubuntu are the off the shelf items. The AJAX chat handler(which I call PUPCHAT, think baby seal) is custom coded and should scale better than other products *crosses fingers*.
